What is Spark? Who is Catalyst?
Spark is Shoalhaven's public-interest e-newsletter and website amplifying community efforts and stimulating debate on local issues through articles, podcasts, videos, and social media.
Catalyst is Cat's own environment blog - essays and reports focusing on our planet and the people and policies that will define its future.
Sparking curiosity. Kindling conversation. Igniting change.
Knowledge is power. Everyone should have equal access to reliable information about decisions, events and trends affecting our future. Our goal is to keep our audience 'in the know' without paywalls and other barriers of vested interests.
Spark is FREE. For community. By community. About community.
Spark was launched in March 2024 by Cat Holloway, a freelance journalist with a background in news reporting, magazine editing, photography and citizen science. Cat has also enjoyed a long career in SCUBA diving as an instructor, live-aboard cruise director and coral reef ecologist.
In addition to writing and underwater photography for marine publications and organisations, Cat has contributed to air-breathing mastheads including Good Weekend (SMH), National Geographic, Cosmopolitan, Islands, Simply Living, Choice, and GEO.
